If you are in need of assistance,
If you are interested in supporting Joshua House...
Joshua House Inc. is a faith based ministry and it relies on donations like yours to keep helping those in need. Thank you for your donations and support!
Joshua House Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit all donations are tax-deductible.
What started with helping a neighbor get to an appointment and helping another pay a fuel bill to avoid falling into debt, grew into the nonprofit known as Joshua House Inc. Having no physical location or being “a house” it’s a virtual concept of caring and support for people where they live. Joshua House helps people remain strong, independent, and self-reliant.
Joshua House was founded in Irasburg, VT in 1996 by Casey Boyle-Eldridge and a small group of friends. Its mission was and is “to meet basic needs of the homeless or near homeless population in Northern Vermont that results from unemployment and underemployment and related human environmental issues.” The objectives are “to support and shelter the homeless short-term and to help prevent homelessness through emergency support for necessities.” Joshua House and its Board of Directors and volunteers seek to empower everyone to find support, love, caring and outreach from us - their community family.
In May, Casey and the previous board stepped down and a new Board of Directors took over; Tim Daley, President; Brenda Lowther Vice President; Sunny Naughton Secretary; Steve Mengel Treasurer; Pastor Mike Haddad; Pastor James Merriam Board Members.
As a 501c3 non-profit, and a Christian organization, Joshua House provides services to people from all walks of life, faiths, and non-faith backgrounds. As a privately funded organization receiving no federal or state funds, all support for those in need comes from ongoing fundraisers, caring individuals, business, and other non-profits. Where many organizations have limitations as to what and how much can be given to an individual or family, Joshua House has no such restrictions, thereby allowing it to assist at times to a greater extent. In 2018 Joshua House paid out over $24,000.00 in assistance, made possible from generous donations
by local individuals and businesses.
Since taking over the 23-year-old organization in May, the new Board of Directors has assisted in over 55 cases of prevention in Orleans, Essex, Caledonia, and Lamoille Counties paying out more than $12,000. Most of those funds were raised through fundraisers and generous individuals and businesses. The cases have included, but have not been limited to, abused individuals, elders losing housing, single parents struggling, children with disabilities, etc. Most have been working people needing help to move forward. Working closely with NEKCA and local Community Partners, other nonprofits, churches and religious charities, Joshua House helps to get people back on track, filling in the gap.
Although compassionate and eager to help, not all requests receive financial assistance and those that do, receive it only once in a 12-month period. Repeated help is rarely required and sustainability to continue on track is needed.
Joshua House is a volunteer organization with a non-paid Board of Directors made up of local people helping their neighbors, seniors, and working people here in Northern VT. The struggle is real, and each donation, regardless of size, makes a big difference. Prevention is possible
when people work together and that, is what Joshua House Inc. is all about.
